There
are 209 official bathing waters in the Weser River Basin which are
predominantly lakes. 18 bathing areas are situated downstream at the
river Weser and at the coastal waters. Throughout the bathing season the
water quality is regularly monitored and particularly faecal coliform
bacteria are looked at to avoid health threats to the public.
The
results from last year’s (2010) bathing season are presented in this
map. The data is reported
annually in compliance with the implementation of the European Bathing
Waters Directive and the water quality is assessed according to the
following system:
blue =
All standards of the EU Bathing Waters Directive are met.
green =
These waters do not exceed the less stringent thresholds value; no
significant deterioration is expected.
yellow =
Data is not sufficient to enable an assessment of water quality.
red =
One of the threshold is exceeded. The competent authorities
(municipalities) can prohibit bathing in theses waters.
black =
Bathing is prohibited throughout the season.
In the
Weser River Basin in 2010 nearly all bathing waters except for 3 could
be used according to the current assessment.
