Chloride levels of the Werra river at the Gerstungen monitoring station

Chloride levels are most amenable to accurate measurement at the Gerstungen monitoring station since no further salt inputs are realized downstream. The success of desalination measures up to 1998 can be clearly seen in the graphic below. Since that time, chloride levels, which are measured monthly, have for the most part remained under the 2500 mg/l threshold value. In 2010 the value has not been exceeded once a time.
