Ide (Leuciscus idus)
  Fish Fauna

Ide is a member of a carp fish family (Cyprinidae). This migratory fish, also known as id or orfe, is morphologically similar to the (European) chub (Leuciscus cephalus). Ides are shoal fishes populating water courses in the regions of carp bream. They migrate in spring from March until May to the water, locating after a relatively short route the still areas of the shallow water zones with gravelly-sandy substrate.

Ides grow to an average length of 30-50 cm. Their weight amounts between 0,25 and 2 kg, whereby it is possible to find also larger examples of 80 cm body length and a weight of 6 kg.

Young fish feed on zooplankton, and the adult individuals on insect larvae, snails, mussels and smaller fish. The average expected age of the ide is about 10 years.
