Salt pollution in the Werra and Weser rivers
  Water quality

For many decades salt waste is disposed off into the river Werra. The chloride pressure had its peak during the 1970ies and 1980ies. After the German reunification the chloride concentration was considerably reduced by implementing a technical salt reduction concept and by closing two production facilities in Thuringia.

In future all possible efforts will be made to improve the water quality and avoid a deterioration of the state. In 2008-2010 this process has been accompanied by the Round Table “Water Protection Werra/Weser and Potash Industry” which has been initiated by the Hessian and Thuringian regional state parliaments. In 2010 a recommendation has been presented. In future the Round Table will come together twice a year.
